Welltrain commenced operations in 2009 setting a benchmark in Well Control training in Australia.  has its roots with University of New South Wales (UNSW) – a leading School of Petroleum Engineering which has been delivering Well Control Training for 20 years. Welltrain and parent companies both have well established roots in the drilling industry – Labrador Petro‐Management Pty Ltd (LPM) and Horizon Resources International (HRI) respectively. LPM has been providing Drilling Project Management and consulting Services in Australia for 29 years and HRI is a leader in rig inspection and commissioning services in Australia and new‐build drilling rig construction and conversion in Southeast Asia. The depth of experience within Welltrain ensures training is relevant and up to date with current drilling and engineering technology.

Welltrain specialises in the design and delivery of operationally relevant courses to all levels of personnel involved in onshore and offshore drilling operations the oil and gas industry from awareness to specialist performance training.  Welltrain  expects to deliver training to over 1000 people worldwide annually via our two permanent accredited training venues in Western Australia and Queensland.  The Perth campus is located at ERGT Australia’s Oil and Gas Safety Training Centre and The Brisbane campus is situated at the South Bank Institute of Technology in Brisbane’s vibrant South Bank precinct. Being Australia wide means clients have access to high quality and affordable training that will help to ensure a safe environment for drilling and well servicing operations.

The focus of our training is to deliver operationally relevant training that enhances skills and to promote improved operational efficiency and safety.  Welltrain has developed a broad range of operationally relevant scheduled public courses that cover the theoretical and practical aspects of well control for drilling and well servicing operations.

Welltrain supports both the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) WellSharp and the International Well Control Forum (IWCF) certification programs and include:

– IADC WellSharp Drilling Well Control – Levels 1 to 4
– IWCF Drilling Well Control – Levels 2 to 4
– IWCF Well Intervention Well Control – Levels 2 to 4

Scheduled public courses cover both Drilling and Well Intervention Pressure Control and is delivered over 5 days (4 days training 1 day written examination).

Company specific and customised in-house courses such as Advanced Well Control, Training to Reduce Unscheduled Events (TRUE), Stuck Pipe Prevention, High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT), Drill the Well On Simulator (DWOS) and Management of Drilling Problems are aimed at enhancing the knowledge of the professional drilling and engineering staff of client companies. This unscheduled training can be tailored for delivery in the classroom, simulator, rig-site or a blend of each.

Welltrain has the largest fleet of drilling well control simulators in Australasia with three full rig floor simulators permanently located in three states of Australia.  Plans for a 4th simulator is to be commissioned by the end of 2016.

In addition to the full size simulators Welltrain has a large fleet of portable and transportable simulators – to bring training to wherever it is needed.

Welltrain ’s instructors all have a balance of industry and training experience and will deliver training as accredited IWCF Instructors/Practical Assessors and IADC WellSharp instructors.

Welltrain continues to actively participate in pilot projects for both IADC and IWCF to ensure Australia is at the cutting edge of well control training.  Future training with Welltrain will include hands‐on equipment familiarisation.

The company’s training services are complemented by an in-house “Technical Authoring” function, dedicated to the design, production and publishing of technical documentation for both training and operations.
