The Purpose of the Introductory Well Control course is to identify knowledge and skills needed by the rig personnel during drilling operations. This course emphasizes kick prevention and detection and is suitable for Personnel involved in drilling/workover operation who are preparing to attend a well control school for the first time.
The Introductory course is also suitable for personnel who are unfamiliar with drilling and workover operations and would like a basic introduction to well control.

The Introductory course is designed to be standalone and therefore, does not require a lower level course to be completed prior to enrolling in this course.
The Introductory 5 day course provides potential well control certificate holders with an awareness to well control theory, practices and equipment using a combination of drilling simulator and classroom exercises.
An IADC WellSharp Certificate of Completion is issued to each participant completing the course and passing the online knowledge assessment with a pass mark of at least 70% (Simulator exercises and assessment are not required for this course. The Certificate is valid for 5 years.
